The Pro Bowl, the NFL players All Stars game takes place this Sunday January 24th at the University of Arizona Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This year’s game is being held at the same venue the Super Bowl will be played at next week. Unlike other All Star major league sports events which are held in mid-season, the Pro Bowl occurs after the official playing season.
Up to 2013, the game was played between members of the AFC against the NFC. In 2014, a new process started with players selected by NFL Alumni captains in a fantasy draft, hence players from the same team may face off against one another.
NFL Hall of Famers Chris Carter and Michael Irvin are the Pro Bowl team captains this year. Quarterbacks Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys, Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons and Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions head-up “Team Irvin” in the game, while quarterbacks Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints and Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals head-up “Team Carter.”
In the Pro Bowl “fantasy” match-ups, Indianapolis Colts players Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton playing on “Team Irvin” will be going up against teammates D’Qwell Jackson, Vontae Davis, Mike Adams and Adam Vinatieri in the game, who will be playing for “Team Carter.”
