Rebuilding a TAG Heuer 1000 Submariner Diver

Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut. I was wandering around an antiques dealer in Buffalo, NY last summer and happened upon TAG Heuer 1000 Submariner Diver watch for $25. So, that happened. I sat on it for a while, but once I moved down to Miami I decided I was going to find out if we could make it run.  I had the repairs team here pry it open and have a look. Not surprisingly, the gasket was shot, since the watch is somewhere around thirty years old. So we replaced that. TAG makes a great watch though,…

Award Winning Watches

The Academy Awards was last night and let’s face it most people watch the show to see what the stars are wearing, not to mention some of the outrageous acceptance speeches and of course the host’s monologues and between awards badinage. “Mad Max: Fury Road”, was the big winner of the evening with six awards in the technical categories… and “Spotlight” was named Best Picture. But let’s get real: without Googling last year’s winners most of us probably don’t remember that “Birdman” took the top honors last year, taking home the Best Picture prize. Flashback 1996: Americans were tuned into watching ER, Seinfeld and Friends on TV. Independence Day, Twister and Mission Impossible were the popular films in movie theaters and Macarena was the top song on the radio. Online shopping was new and revolutionary at the time and many Americans still did not even have personal computers in their homes and relied on computers at work for online surfing and shopping. 1996 marks the year of the origin of WorldofWatches.com, a revolutionary site in both the worlds of retail and timepieces. Numerous retailers at the time barely had an online presence, not to…

Stress-Free Luxury Time

Pay-over-time promotions have been popular for close to a century since the 1930’s, when many retailers offered consumers Layaway promotions on high-ticked items. The premise was that a consumer would put a deposit on a particular high-ticket item and pay for it over time until the item was completely paid for. One advantage to this practice is that no interest is normally charged to the buyer. However, the major disadvantage is that item does not become property of the purchaser until it is completely paid for. Popular online retailer WorldofWatches.com has taken these two factors into consideration and periodically offers…
