The people at Pantone went absolutely WILD and picked not one, but TWO colors of the year for 2016. Okay so technically it’s a blending of two shades, a mashup, if you will–Rose Quartz and Serenity. If you’re like me, when someone tells you these are the colors of the year, it means nothing. No colors come to mind. But once you see them, you’ll get it. It’s basically baby pink and sky blue. But according to Pantone’s website, it’s this:
Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.
They really are soothing and peaceful colors. According to their site, Pantone’s choice to blend this warm rose tone with a cool blue was rooted in the “gender blur as it relates to fashion,” “coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity…for a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged” and for those who use color as an expression of mood and attitude.
These are very specific colors to match, but I think I found a couple that will do the trick. I’ve been wanting this Swiss Legend Blue Geneve since it was released and now I have the perfect reason to get it. I just can’t decide if I want the 46mm 3-hand version or the 48mm chronograph. Both are men’s styles, which excites me even more because that’s extremely fitting with the whole gender-fluid theme we’ve got going on here.
If you want to represent the colors of the year with me, checkout this little list I put together. Some have a deeper blue or a brighter blue, but it’s about the message right? Not to mention, rose gold looks ridiculously good when paired with a blue dial or strap. Plus, blue dials are super “in” right now. So there’s that.
