Ingersoll Watches are true American time-keeping legends. Founded by brothers Robert and Charles Ingersoll in 1892 in New York, NY the brand introduced the first automated produced watches in 1896 at the retail selling price of one dollar, which was a day’s wages at the time.

Ingersoll’s “Yankee” or “Dollar” pocket watch was immediately popular in the United States and across the globe with over 1 million watches produced immediately thereafter. Legend has it when US President Theodore Roosevelt was on a hunting safari in Africa, he was described as the man from the country where Ingersoll watches were produced not the President of the United States.

In 1904, Ingersoll opened a shop in London, England offering “Crown” pocket watches for five shillings, an amount similar to the dollar at the same time. By 1916 over 40 million dollar watches were sold. The Radiolite wristwatch, introduced by Ingersoll in 1919 was the first timepiece with a luminous night dial.INGERSOLL-3104SL

The brand was sold in 1922 after the recession  to the Waterbury Clock Company, which later became known as Timex Watches. Waterbury sold Ingersoll in 1930 to its London division’s board of directors, making Ingersoll a completely owned British company. However, Waterbury still continued to produce watches for Ingersoll in America until 1950.

In the early 1930’s, Ingersoll began producing character watches featuring popular cartoon characters on the dials, ranging from Betty Boop and the Lone Ranger to Flash Gordon and Captain Marvel. The brand obtained the licensing rights to Mickey Mouse watches in 1933, which was met with international acclaim and sales of 2.5 million units in the first two years.

Ingersoll today is part of the Zeon Watch Group and still produces Mickey Mouse and Disney themed watches along with other innovative modern watch collections, true to the brand’s heritage and craftsmanship.
