Who is Sir Jackie Stewart?

Sir Jackie Stewart, the legendary Formula One driver, is known not only for his on-track success but also his passion for watch collecting. His collection comprises over 30 timepieces from top brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Omega. Sir Jackie’s love for vintage watches is evident, which he considers works of art and engineering that can be worn on the wrist.

Sir Jackie has been sporting a Rolex on his wrist for over 50 years, having purchased his first Rolex Day-Date following his participation in the Indianapolis 500 race in 1966. This purchase caught the attention of then-Rolex CEO AndrĂ© Heiniger, who appointed him as a Rolex Brand Ambassador. One of the most interesting watches in his collection is the Rolex Daytona, which he received as a gift from Rolex after winning the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix. The watch has a unique dial design known as the “Paul Newman” dial, named after the actor and racing enthusiast who also wore one.

Sir Jackie’s admiration for watches is evident in his perceptive gaze, taking in every intricate detail while contemplating the watch’s overall design. His collection includes an 18k gold GMT-Master II, an Everose Cosmograph Daytona, and a new green-dialed gold Day-Date on a matching green strap (to name a few) – a significant color representing British racing and Rolex’s signature color.

To Sir Jackie, watches are not just fashion accessories or status symbols, but a way to mark significant moments in his life, such as winning a championship or completing a long journey. His collection is a testament to his love for watch collecting and appreciation for the art and engineering behind them.
