Green Beer, Anyone?

I’d love a green beer right about now or even a regular-colored beer. I won’t be picky. Even a Guinness will do and that’s hard for me to stomach since it has the consistency of a milkshake. I will take an Irish Car Bomb though. Actually, that should be mandatory if you have to be at work on St. Patrick’s Day. Irish Car Bombs during lunch. #YAS I think I’m on to something. I wonder if HR will approve this… Okay I’ll stop fantasizing about drinking at work and save that for happy hour tomorrow. Did you know St. Patrick’s…

Rebuilding a TAG Heuer 1000 Submariner Diver

Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut. I was wandering around an antiques dealer in Buffalo, NY last summer and happened upon TAG Heuer 1000 Submariner Diver watch for $25. So, that happened. I sat on it for a while, but once I moved down to Miami I decided I was going to find out if we could make it run.  I had the repairs team here pry it open and have a look. Not surprisingly, the gasket was shot, since the watch is somewhere around thirty years old. So we replaced that. TAG makes a great watch though,…

Modern Times

Pace-setting modern wristwatches for both men and women have been at the fashion forefront since Movado introduced the Museum Watch in 1947. With streamlined Bauhaus inspired styling created by artist Nathan George Hewitt, the Movado Museum watch defined modern timepieces for many decades. The original watch featured an ultra-slim and perfectly round case in polished yellow gold presented on a black lizard strap. The iconic dial featured only two slender gold-tone finished sword hands and a single round dot accent at the 12 o’clock hour on a black background. A sweeping second hand and hour marker indicators were absent on…

Hamilton Screen Legends

Hamilton-Watches-In-Movies

Hamilton watches are renowned for being true legendary American timepieces. The brand was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, PA and was one of the largest producers of Railroad watches in the early 1900’s. Hamilton was commissioned by the US military for wristwatches worn by servicemen during both World War I and World War II. Notably, more than 1 million watches were shipped to troops overseas during the Second World War… a time when the production of consumer watches was halted by brand to exclusively produce timepieces for the US Army and Navy along with other allied Navies as well. The…

Color Me Timeless

colorful watches

I for one have always been a fan of bright, vibrant colors and everything with color. My wardrobe always reflects this part of my personality. Even when wearing all black I have to have something with a contrasting tone to highlight my ensemble.  Everyone knows that watches make for great accessories and here are some of my favorite watch brands and collections that offer a variety of hues to go with whatever mood I’m in. Swiss Legend’s Neptune collection comes in a rainbow of colors: pink, green, blue, red, orange, black, white, you name it.  It’s a nice sporty choice…

More YOLO, Less FOMO

Right click, open new tab. Right click, open new tab. This is my life while online shopping. Does anyone else do this? I need make sure I don’t lose my place on my main page while at the same time opening  up every possibility that remotely interests me in a new tab. From there it’s another long process of switching back and forth between all my tabs, comparing and trying to eliminate options until I’m left with the items that make it to my cart. Phase 3 typically includes me realizing that my cart is still way too expensive and I’ll have to get rid of…

Happy International Women’s Day

International Women's Day

Being the only female writer on staff at the WorldofWatches blog (and by “on staff” I mean “volunteer blogger that comes and goes as she pleases”), I felt the need to write a little something today. Really though, I was totally inspired by Google’s homepage doodle video. So, as it turns out, March 8th used to be called “International Working Women’s Day.” I’m quite pleased with the change to “International Women’s Day” because ALL women, not just working women, deserve to be celebrated for their achievements. But this day is not just about appreciating the social, economic, cultural and political accomplishments of women. It’s also about recognizing…

Timepieces 101…

Buying a watch can be a rather intimidating and baffling experience, perhaps even more challenging for some of us than purchasing an automobile or even a house. The new Knowledge Center at WorldofWatches.com answers many of the questions both new watch buyers and seasoned collectors may have. There are sections on the Inside…

3 Great Watches for 3 Great Scotches

Scotch and Watch Pairings

When it comes to spirits, single malt scotch is my favorite. Sure, I turn to red wine most Friday nights, but when I really want to relax and enjoy a drink, it’s scotch. Scotch has a “feeling.” When I lived in Western New York, cold winter nights needed something to warm your heart and spirit.  Believe me, February and March turned into long, long months waiting for the weather to break. So sitting in a leather chair with a good book and a good scotch became a habit. I’d like to think it was in front of a roaring fire…

Join The GMT Movement!

Before first glancing at a GMT Watch you may think that the timepiece has something to do with either Formula 1 auto-racing or the GMT games. Although the three initials are the same, a GMT watch has very little to do with either activity. A GMT Watch is a timepiece with an independent hour hand that offers dual time-zone functionality and may be set to the Greenwich Mean Time from which it is named. Greenwich Mean Time is the solar mean time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich England. The Royal Observatory’s solar mean time has served as a global…
